In modern society, people work hard, build a career, achieve certain successes and positions. This can be considered absolutely normal if it does not go from the category of industriousness to workaholism. When a person devotes all his time either to the work itself or to thinking about upcoming or existing activities, this can lead to serious health problems.

Experts believe that working hard, becoming a professional and earning enough money is the norm for middle-aged people.

At some point, the pursuit of money and professional growth becomes not a joy, but a difficult task. The person begins to get tired, he is no longer happy with success and even the amounts earned. He turns into an irritable person. Colleagues, noticing this, try to communicate less with him, and the bosses are no longer always satisfied with the results of his work. So, it's time to stop and switch to yourself, family, rest, trips to nature or a summer residence, reading books and much more, which brings pleasure and joy to a person. If a person noticed in time that it is time to change something, then he will not lose his mental balance and calmly begin to rebuild his life. If this does not happen, then we can say that the person suffers from workaholism.

Workaholic portrait

A workaholic is only passionate about work. Even when his personal life collapses and the first signs of illness appear, he does not stop exhausting himself with work and thinks about it day and night.

Workaholism is as much a problem as alcoholism. It is very difficult to get rid of it on your own, because both are addictions. But not only does a person himself become dependent on his addictions to work, workaholism is also encouraged by the society in which we all live.

Workaholics are not always successful people, while many are ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of work, even without receiving the desired recognition. Among psychologists, there is an opinion that a workaholic can be compared with a suicide person, because both are actually killing themselves.

For a workaholic, work is life itself. She can completely replace his family, friends and any hobbies not related to his activities. He always tries to stay late at work, even when it is not necessary.

A workaholic does not know how and cannot rest, so the weekend is torture for him, and he takes part of the work, if possible, at home. If for some reason the work ends, the person feels useless and cannot find a place for himself. Anything that has nothing to do with work is an empty pastime for him. Once the job is complete, the workaholic will never be happy about it. He will scroll over and over again in his head: did he do everything the way it was necessary, and worry about how his work will be evaluated and perceived by his superiors. If something does not work out, then for a workaholic it is a nightmare and a complete disaster.

What does workaholism lead to?

Ultimately, the result of such activities is:

  • fatigue;
  • stress;
  • aggression;
  • insomnia;
  • high blood pressure;
  • heart and digestive problems;
  • mental problems;
  • mental disorders are also not excluded.

A workaholic does not have time to see a doctor, go for examinations, and monitor his health. From him you can hear the phrase "Someday later …". But, unfortunately, "later" may not come at all.

Why is a person able to bring himself to such a state

  1. Inability to solve any problems in life and unwillingness to learn it. Going to work is a way to solve any problems.
  2. The inability to be alone and enjoy the rest with yourself.
  3. Wrong upbringing. If a child was praised at home only when he brought fives and devoted all his time to study, he learned that only when you constantly study (work), you are loved.
  4. The inability to get rid of complexes and fears, to raise self-esteem and self-esteem.
  5. The habit of doing everything for others and never wanting anything for yourself. Such a person lives in a "must" state.

Workaholism can be compared to a disease in which a person is able to destroy himself completely and even die, without having time to begin to appreciate life.
