Self-perception is an interesting topic in personality psychology. It depends on various factors - age, profession, appearance. And any perception and self-esteem is associated with the criteria that society has defined for itself - whether it be the criteria of beauty, talent or wealth.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, appearance affects the perception of oneself. Since a normal physique is considered to be the standard of beauty and health in society over the past decades, excess or insufficient weight significantly affects a person's self-image and his mood about this.
Step 2
A thin body can be hidden behind robes, but a full one cannot be hidden. Fat people feel more discomfort when leaving the house than thin people. Realizing that everyone around them primarily pays attention to appearance, overweight people are exposed to chronic stress. They are tense, assuming that everyone they meet assesses them for their compliance with the accepted ideals of beauty, that this assessment is not in favor of a full physique, that, beyond this standard, an overweight person is a priori still considered stupid, because he does not understand how unattractive he looks. or lazy if he understands, but does nothing to fix it. Dejected by such thoughts, the overweight person aggravates his situation, seizing up the experienced stress every time he returns home. Self-esteem regularly suffers from one's own thoughts of lack of will, from envy of those who have lost weight and are in good physical shape.
Step 3
An overweight person in such a situation begins to perceive himself as a hopeless loser, agreeing in advance to loneliness - who needs him like that? He comes to terms with the thought of his own unattractiveness. And even if a man turns to a full lady with an offer to get acquainted, she often perceives this as a mockery, because she simply does not believe in what might interest anyone. And even if they put in front of her information about dozens of opinion polls, according to which many men choose fatties as their companions, she will not believe.
Step 4
Of course, there are people whose self-perception is not affected by weight. And those around them accept it - moreover, subconsciously. After all, all thoughts of a person about himself are intuitively guessed by society, and it refers to a person in accordance with the ideas of the person about himself. A plump woman considers herself insignificant, engages in self-criticism and self-flagellation, - she will receive proof of her point of view from society. A woman loves herself, regardless of the indications of the scales, and society loves her. And around the interested glances, compliments, courtship. Two women of the same size and two different perceptions of themselves give such a different result. And one is inevitably happy, the other suffers endlessly.
Step 5
Sometimes it is the other way around - low self-esteem, as the basis of a person's self-perception, affects weight. So, people whose opinion was neglected in childhood, or did not pay enough attention to them, tend to gain excess weight - so they subconsciously seek to occupy more space around them, that is, become more significant, noticeable. Or those people who feel unprotected eat up the "shell", also subconsciously trying to create a kind of lifebuoy around themselves.
Step 6
Weight should never affect self-perception. Personality is much more than just a body, a physical shell. The standards were invented by people who often make money on it - beauty business owners, fashion designers, food manufacturers, fitness trainers, endless nutritionists. Living in harmony with yourself is the main thing. Compare yourself not with others, but with yourself - yesterday. This is what will show the growth of personality, will demonstrate success, will allow formulating goals for the future. This is what will help to perceive yourself adequately, to live in harmony with your body and mind.
