It used to be a simple matter to cure a child or an impressionable adult from fear, although not everyone could afford it. Fright spoke "grandmothers", cast on wax, read prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos. In modern medicine, there is no such diagnosis as fear. But this does not mean that she cannot cure him. It's just that what used to be called fright is now diagnosed as various phobias.

Help your child learn to deal with their fears

Necessary

  • Patience
  • Attention to the problems of the child
  • Willingness to ask for help

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, be patient. Overcoming fears can take months or even years. And let it seem to you for a long time that your child should already "outgrow" this, remember that fears are irrational and do not use calendars.

Step 2

If the child is frightened by an animal or insect, start slowly accustoming him to the idea that they are not as dangerous as they once seemed to him.

Step 3

First draw a sketchy figure of a cat, dog, or spider. Ask the child to portray the "abuser" himself. Gradually move from schematic drawings to realistic ones. Then start looking at the photos.

Step 4

When the child is ready for the next step, show the scary animal in the video. Then look at him from a safe distance, through some kind of obstacle. For example, through glass. Then through the open door.

Step 5

Never rush a child, do not put pressure on him. Be close at all times and let hide behind you at any time. And perhaps one day the kid will pet a cat or dog.

Step 6

More serious phobias should be treated by specialists. Symptoms of severe phobias include dizziness, sweating, shortness of breath, vomiting, and heart palpitations. If your child is afraid of something "before vomiting", urgently contact a child psychotherapist.

Step 7

It is normal to be afraid of certain things at different ages. Children up to two years old can be frightened by strangers, strange objects, loud noises. At the age of six, it is common to be afraid of monsters, ghosts and fabulous villains. These are just such fears that can pass by themselves. After seven years, a child can be frightened by natural phenomena and disasters.

Step 8

Fear of school, public speaking, germs can develop into serious social anxiety. Do not dismiss them, do not scold the child. Teach him the simplest relaxation method, find out how serious his fear is on a 10-point school. Do not oversimplify the child's problems, do not say that this is nonsense. Show that you are serious about him and are willing to listen to him and help him.
