Gadgets and constant access to information both open up the broadest opportunities that the kings and sultans of the past did not have, and threaten with new, unprecedented problems and diseases. Along with digital addiction, the cumbersome phrase "informational pseudo-weakness" is increasingly heard.
Informational pseudo-debility (hereinafter IP) is one of the mental disorders in which a person shows signs of debility (not in the everyday sense, but in the medical sense, that is, mental retardation), but there is a significant difference. With the usual debility, a diagnosed brain pathology is observed. A person diagnosed with PV does not have such a pathology, but all the symptoms are. Symptoms do not arise due to pathology, but, as the name suggests, due to excessive consumption of information.
That is, we are talking about a change in brain activity under the influence of gadgets. To date, some scientists are talking about, for example, problems such as mental retardation, inability to navigate information, addiction. To this should be added increased aggression, which is not caused by intraspecific aggression in the sense in which Konrad Lawrence spoke about it, but by the inability to communicate in a positive way. Young people who spend a lot of time on the screen do not have communication skills and in order to somehow communicate, they show aggression, because an aggressive collision with someone is a special case of social interaction.
This is how convergent thinking suffers, it is responsible for a balanced decision. This means that the brain receives a huge amount of information, but this amount does not translate into quality, this body of superficial knowledge does not have time to be processed, because the brain has limited data processing speeds, so a person does not analyze and structure the knowledge gained. Thus, the brain loses its ability to think abstractly and moves to simplified thinking.
Andrey Kurpatov introduces the concept of "digital hygiene", which consists of simple and everyday procedures designed to prevent the development of the aforementioned symptoms of PI.
So, point by point:
⠀1. Mute the sound on your smartphone.
⠀2. Disable pop-up notifications. They distract our attention, so it's not long and forgetting to watch the series.
⠀3. You don't have to always be in touch. Imagine that you are not you, but some higher beings who have the right to answer when it is convenient.
⠀4. Do not carry your smartphone around the apartment with you. Determine where it is and keep it there at all times. If you need a smartphone, you go to it as you used to to a computer or a landline phone. Used - and further on their business.
⠀5. Train yourself that the morning starts without a smartphone. In the morning, there are a lot of other priority things to do - breakfast, shower, justify the lack of exercise, etc.
⠀7. Don't consume information an hour before bed. Reading a book or, at worst, having boring family sex is much better.
