The term "mental traps" is used in the book of the same name by the mathematician, philosopher and psychologist, professor emeritus of the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto, Andre Kukla. He literally "on his fingers" explains to readers how their own brain controls them, not giving inner freedom and keeping the personality on a short leash of false truths. As a result, our life turns into a chain of obstacles that we cannot overcome on the way to harmony.

Instructions

Step 1

The list of traps is large - Andre Kukla identifies 11 types: persistence, amplification, fixation, reversal, anticipation, resistance, delay, separation, acceleration, regulation, formulation. The first trap on the list is persistence. We continue to do something that does not fit with our desires and goals, moreover, interferes with their implementation. The essence of this phenomenon can be formulated as follows: "The mice cried, injected, but continued to eat the cactus." In such cases, it is important to tell yourself: I will not gain anything by completing what I started. Moreover, I will not lose anything, and I will even win many times, interrupting an unpleasant and meaningless process.

Step 2

Amplification, or excess of effort, threatens fatally low efficiency of your activity. (From Wikipedia: "Coefficient of performance (COP) is defined as the ratio of useful energy used to the total amount of energy received by the system"). We often hear a compliment: he has such a thorough approach to business! But there is a disparity between costs and results: we stand in a kilometer-long queue to save 50 rubles, and in order to boil an egg, we write a lengthy algorithm. In any situation, it is important to understand how efficient your internal system is, whether the device is idling.

Step 3

Fixation and reversion are traps that bring stagnation in our lives. Tightening can also be attributed to this category. And if “pulling the cat by the tail” is recognized by everyone as a wrong strategy, then, say, fixation is readily accepted for concentration on any event. However, when fixing on the arrival of guests, scheduled in an hour, all other things get up. We could have sewn up a shirt for now or watch a movie, but we walk from corner to corner without any purpose. Reversal makes you endlessly grind a conversation in the brain of a week ago, dissect a relationship that ended a year ago. But our starting point must move forward, and we must not compare our experience with the one before last. Bury your dead at last and live on.

Step 4

The lead trap forces us to get the keys to the house while still on the bus, pack our suitcase a month before the vacation and wait for the New Year in September. On the one hand, it is far-sighted and prudent, on the other hand, all events up to the aforementioned seem to fall out, lose their value. There is also a golden autumn between September and the New Year, and before the vacation you must submit a quarterly report. And this deserves much more attention than the ghostly one not even “the day after tomorrow”, but “after after after after”. The fear of the future comes from here - we tolerate unloved work and people, because suddenly it will be even worse further.

Step 5

Resistance is our inertia. To open the door, you have to get off the couch, to eat, you have to stop digging. We are busy with doing or not doing and switching over with great difficulty. For the body, switching is a kind of stress, leading out of the comfort zone at a particular moment. However, going beyond this zone is a guarantee of success: we will communicate with a loved one, replenish our strength or increase the level of income.
