Also, apathy is typical for people who have experienced a crisis or prolonged physical or emotional stress.

Other, deeper causes of apathy include certain mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or depression. In the event that apathy is protracted and accompanies memory lapses or difficulties in intellectual activity, you should consult a specialist to prevent unwanted consequences.

Coping with apathy

In a situation where apathy lasts no more than two weeks and is not aggravated by symptoms in the form of memory problems, the syndrome serves as a kind of signal that there is something in a person's life that prevents him from living and enjoying life, or lacks motivation for further actions and achievement of goals. Calm thinking about the problem will help you find a way out and get rid of the feeling of emptiness.

When fighting apathy, in no case should you resort to "treatment" with alcohol and the use of drugs without a doctor's prescription, otherwise you may not only not help yourself, but also complicate the situation.

Psychologists advise, if possible, to take a vacation from work and try to limit contact with others for a while. Take some time for yourself: get a good night's sleep, take an aromatic bath, light candles. Favorite music or going out into nature can also help. The more a person becomes obsessed with apathy, the longer this state will last.

Restoring energy balance is a must when fighting apathy. Pay attention to foods that increase the tone of the body and contribute to the production of the "hormone of happiness": chocolate, citrus fruits, bananas and green tea will help you.
