Adequacy is behavior that is understandable and does not raise any questions from others. But adequacy is not only a characteristic of normal behavior. This word also means a lot of different phenomena.

What is adequacy

In psychology, adequacy is the degree to which a person's behavior corresponds to certain patterns and patterns of behavior. If society is supposed to eat, putting a plate on the table and sitting on a chair at the same time is the norm. But a person who, for no reason, no reason, sits on the edge of the table, and puts his feet on a chair, violates the accepted schemes. Such behavior is already beyond the scope of adequacy and is considered as inadequate.

Of course, not everything is so simple. In the behavior of people, it is not always possible to clearly distinguish a model that needs to be followed. And it is for this reason that one cannot confidently assert that this or that behavior will be adequate or not. Adequacy, oddly enough, is a largely subjective concept. After all, if someone puts himself in the way you think is correct, this does not mean at all that other people will consider his behavior to be adequate.

It is interesting that the term adequacy is present not only in psychology and philosophy, but also in mathematics and probability theory. The essence of the phenomenon is similar here - an adequate result is one that does not go beyond the framework of a known scheme or theory. For example, if, as a result of experience or the solution of a theorem, the correctness of the original judgment is proved, the result can be considered adequate. But in the event that results are obtained that contradict the original theory, their adequacy is questioned. By the way, this does not mean at all that the result is incorrect and the experiments were carried out incorrectly. In the exact sciences, a negative result from the point of view of the adequacy of experience is also justified and has the right to exist. Often it is an inadequate result that makes scientists think and revise the foundations of their original research.

The modern world is changing so rapidly that the concept of adequacy has ceased to be considered completely normal. Young people and even older people are increasingly striving to stand out from the crowd, proving to the world and to themselves that they are capable of more. There is a break in the standard template, a protest against uniformity and a revision of one's own adequacy. Today, inappropriate behavior can not only become honorable, but also turn into a kind of symbol of freedom and equality.
