A person makes decisions every day. All his actions are the result of the analysis of certain processes. Making a rational decision can sometimes be difficult. The best way to do this is to consider all the available options and choose the most reasonable one.
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you need to calm down. If you are stressed and looking for a way out of the situation, your decision is likely to be emotional or ill-considered. Take your time if you feel that you cannot control yourself, get distracted and temporarily forget about the task that is in front of you.
Step 2
Try to fully understand the problem you are working on. Look for any information that will help you make the most rational decision. New data for you will allow you to look at the problem from different angles. Check with your friends, they may have already faced a similar situation. It is also important to get a neutral opinion. Try talking to people who are not interested in your decisions. Their opinion will be the most objective and unbiased.
Step 3
The solution to a problem is often seen as unambiguous. The first way out of the situation that comes to mind seems to be the only correct one. However, this is almost always not the case. Take a piece of paper and try to jot down a list of alternatives on it. Your task at this stage is to simply list all possible solutions, without trying to analyze their consequences. Some of the options may seem crazy at first, but later on they can become the best of all. Therefore, do not miss anything, write whatever you come up with.
Step 4
The next step is to analyze the consequences of certain actions. You also need to weigh the risks you are taking on. Go through the list of options that you have compiled and briefly indicate next to each one whether it is a good option or a bad option. The options with the worst or the best consequences can be singled out separately. Having identified the consequences of a particular decision, consider whether it is worth the risks it carries. If the risks turn out to be unacceptable, feel free to discard this option. Also, cross out those decisions that lead to the worst consequences.
Step 5
In some cases, it can be extremely difficult to make a decision. The number of options can be very large, many of them will seem quite acceptable. In this case, try to trust your intuition. Perhaps you have already solved similar problems and remember the results of your actions. This will help you make the right choice, as it seems to you at the moment. If you can't hear your inner voice, try to deceive yourself. Talk about the problem out loud, express ways to solve it as if you were giving advice to another person.
Step 6
Whatever your decision, be prepared to take responsibility for it. Even if it turns out to be not the most rational, it is important that it be deliberate and not taken in an emergency mode. Either way, you can tell yourself that you did your best to solve the problem.
