Eating disorders can occur literally at any age. Such a disorder is most clearly manifested in young people, however, they often originate from childhood, and alarm bells appear in adolescence. What causes this kind of violation? What factors provoke them?

Today, experts identify five main causes that cause eating disorders in children and adults. It is necessary to understand that this kind of pathology is not able to pass on its own. A person with an eating disorder needs some treatment. Otherwise, the mild form of the disorder will gradually begin to progress and may even be fatal.

The main causes of eating disorders

Wrong upbringing. Very often, this type of disorder begins to form in early childhood. This is due to misbehaving parents who may use food as punishment or reward. Forcing the child to eat when he does not want to, forcing him to eat those foods and dishes that are disgusting to the child, parents negatively affect the child's psyche. In later years, this can lead to symptoms of eating disorders. At the same time, a negative example set by mom and dad, often without even realizing this, can adversely affect children's health. For example, excessive overeating, if any of the close relatives is guilty of this, can gradually become habitual for the child. And this will ultimately lead to serious problems.

Genetic predisposition. Many disorders affecting the human psyche can be inherited. In particular, such dangerous pathologies as anorexia and bulimia can indeed be genetically determined. According to the results of studies in this area, it was found that the risk of developing hereditary bulimia is 60%. And the threat of anorexia in a person who has a family history of eating disorders is approximately 58%.

Psycho-traumatic situations. Often, after severe stress or some kind of traumatic event, a person develops nervous hunger. In addition, many people tend to literally "seize" stress. However, there is also the opposite situation, when, during a stressful effect or after a traumatic situation, a person completely loses his appetite, which can also be a symptom of an eating disorder that has begun to develop. Nervous hunger and the desire to constantly chew something to distract from negative emotions, gradually lead to overeating and provoke bulimia. Moreover, this sharply negatively affects the physiological health of a person. Therefore, eating disorders "break" not only the psyche, but also the somatics.

Unexpected changes in life. As a rule, such a reason, causing a difficult relationship with food, is characteristic of sensitive, fearful people, those who do not seek to leave their comfort zone, and perceive any changes as something bad and undesirable. The changes are usually accompanied by stress, which leads to either hunger or binge eating.

Certain personality traits. Oddly enough, but some personality traits and character can become the basis for the development of eating disorders. According to statistics, it follows that people who have very overestimated requirements for themselves and the world, who set themselves goals that are unattainable or difficult to translate into reality, more often than others face eating disorders. Difficulties with nutrition are often noted in maximalists, personalities with leadership traits, and perfectionists.
