There are four types of temperament: choleric, sanguine, melancholic, and phlegmatic. Each of them has its own properties and characteristics. For example, phlegmatic people are calm, balanced, but at the same time it is rather difficult to get along with other people. It is believed that a person receives a certain temperament from birth and therefore cannot be changed. But you can change some of the features that characterize this or that type.
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting to change, determine your type of temperament, study its characteristic properties. See what you would like to change and what suits you perfectly. So, sanguine people are active, sociable people, they control their emotions quite well, but at the same time they are easily distracted from business if they are monotonous and boring. Choleric people are also very mobile, they gladly take on a new business and give themselves up to it with all their passion. The disadvantages of this type of temperament are imbalance, slight excitability, irritability. Melancholic people are rather passive, vulnerable, they prefer to be in an environment where they are familiar with everything. But this type has its advantages. Melancholic people are capable of deep and persistent feelings. Phlegmatic people are very difficult to infuriate, they have a huge reserve of calmness and patience, they stubbornly go towards their intended goal. But at the same time, such people are not very sociable, stingy with emotions, not resourceful.
Step 2
Think about whether you need these changes. You probably like more outgoing, active people, but will you feel comfortable in the same role? Or, conversely, you are overly emotional and jealous of more reserved people. But if you learn to control your feelings, how will this affect your life? Will it become less interesting for you? Perhaps you do not need to do anything with temperament, but you should choose the appropriate interests, hobbies, work, find your circle of friends. Or develop those positive traits that are characteristic of your type of temperament.
Step 3
If you still decide to change and have decided what qualities you want to change, start working on yourself. Develop a program according to which your changes will take place. Take on board the advice of psychologists, various psychological exercises that will help you achieve your goal. For example, you are choleric by your type of temperament. And you would like to become more balanced, learn to control emotions. One of the popular tips in this case: at the moment when you feel that you are starting to boil, count to yourself to 5 or to 10. This will prevent emotions from breaking out. Or leave the room so as not to see the object of your irritation, negative feelings will subside on their own. Of course, you will not immediately notice that you have become calmer, but if you follow these tips constantly, you will sooner or later notice changes in your temperament.
Step 4
You can sign up for trainings aimed at developing certain qualities. For example, you find it difficult to communicate with others, you are inactive, insecure. Take courses that will help you gain self-confidence, learn how to get to know and communicate with other people, and more.
