Initially, the term "narcissism" appeared as a reference to the ancient Greek legend about a young man who was punished by falling in love with himself and, as a result, with himself and withdrawn. Modern "narcissists", in fact, are not at all in love with themselves, on the contrary, dissatisfaction with themselves, the feeling of uselessness, rejection, insignificance makes these people turn their gaze not to the outside world, but to inside themselves, but even there they cannot find consolation.

Modern realities - the race for leadership, for status, perfectionism, a very specific set of specific values - allow narcissism to progress in people, making them helpless in the face of their own failures. What are the signs of narcissism and what to do if this psychological disorder interferes with your life, we will talk in this article.

Signs of narcissism

The roots of narcissism go back to childhood. As a rule, these are children brought up in a family where love and praise had to be "earned", where each person had a certain "function", which he performed, where criticism was considered the "engine of progress", and the actions of the parents in relation to the child did not differ sequence.

A person suffering from narcissism does not know how to build an adequate self-esteem, he is “pumped” from arrogance to self-deprecation and vice versa, he strives for total control of his life, willingly blames (both himself and others) and hardly accepts. "Narcissists" are tormented by uncertainty and uncertainty, such people almost never risk learning something new, and if they do, they then plague themselves with self-pity and fears that this experience is nullified. “In memory of childhood”, “narcissist” talks a lot about who, what and how should do with his life, what to be and what feelings to experience. The hallmark of the "narcissist" is perfectionism and a desire to be appreciated and noticed. However, even when this happens, such a person remains dissatisfied, since he instantly devalues his own achievements.

How to fix?

Unfortunately, this problem is quite deep, and there is no definite answer to “what to do with narcissism and how to get rid of it”. In addition, our entire life around us contributes to the manifestation of this personality disorder.

Undoubtedly, people with narcissism are shown individual psychological therapy. It is very difficult. The "narcissist" rarely admits that he needs help, and even less often knows how to accept this help. Therapy is often interrupted; in the process, such a patient may experience strong aggression towards both the therapist and himself. All this is not easy to overcome, however, if a person really set himself the goal of getting rid of the trauma of the past and present, accepting himself and living happily, then everything is possible.
