An affirmation is a short, positive statement. This psychological technique is able to change thinking, can help in achieving goals. Many people use affirmations to improve their lives. However, many people are also faced with the fact that for some reason there is no effect from attitudes. Why don't affirmations work?

No effect from affirmations
No effect from affirmations

There are a number of guidelines to follow when writing affirmations. However, not only the violation of these tips and, as a result, the incorrect formulation of attitudes leads to the fact that affirmations do not work, or they do not work at all the way the person himself would like. There are five "pitfalls" in working with affirmations that often do not allow you to achieve a result using the power of thought and word.

Frivolous attitude to the process

Affirmations, like many other psychological techniques, will only work if a person believes in them and takes them seriously. Having decided to change your life with the help of thoughts and words, you need to approach this issue extremely responsibly. Think carefully about what exactly you want to achieve and what can be done - apart from affirmations - in order to achieve the goal. Indeed, despite the fact that affirmations affect thinking and the subconscious, they require that a person does not just sit idly by and wait for the weather by the sea.

Lack of faith in the result will not allow you to get what you want, this should never be forgotten. Perceiving attitudes as something comic and playful, one may find that time will simply be wasted. Moreover, with a frivolous approach, affirmations in some cases can give a negative opposite result.

Internal conflict

Affirmations allow you to get in touch with your subconscious. Purposeful repetition of the same attitudes, as it were, changes the already formed - often negative and incorrect - within a person ideas about himself, his health, life in general. However, you need to understand that if there is a protest at the subconscious level, there is disbelief in the power of thought and word and in those attitudes that seem to be imposed on the subconscious, affirmations will not work.

It is impossible to deceive yourself, you should not try to deceive your subconscious. If a person tries to force, force himself to believe in something that he absolutely does not believe in and that he is not ready to actually accept, this only generates an internal conflict and plunges into an unconscious but strong stress. In this situation, there can be no talk of any positive changes.

It is also important to choose what you really need for your affirmations. Only true desires can be fulfilled, and not what is imposed by society. If in fact, subconsciously, a person is not ready to be rich, then no amount of affirmations for money will help him get what he wants.

Wrong wording

Often times, the reason why affirmations don't work is because the wording isn't right. So, for example, positive attitudes can be too long, then they are difficult for the subconscious to perceive and do not give any result. If there is a denial in the affirmation, some kind of opposition, then in this case the effect may not be there either.

You should not add words such as, for example, "I want", "I like", "I can" in affirmations. And also you should not make up a phrase in the future or, even more so, in the past tense.

An example of a wrong affirmation might look like this: "I want to be healthy, I can become healthy." It would be more correct to formulate the attitude in this way: "I am (already) healthy and my health is improving day by day."

Desire for a quick result

Very often people give up affirmations when they don't get any results for several days. However, this is fundamentally the wrong approach. It is important to understand that everything takes time, and even to make changes in life, to achieve any goals and to get a full result from working on oneself, this time may take a lot. Especially in the case when an absolutely negative and destructive program is laid in the subconscious, which has been strengthened and expanded for many years in a row.

Most often, with the right attitude and approach, the first fruits of the installation begin to give after 7-10 days. To achieve the greatest effect, you need to regularly and systematically repeat affirmations every day for 30-40 days. After that it is also not recommended to give up this practice in order to strengthen or consolidate the result. In this case, it is not at all necessary to inspire one and the same thing a hundred times. It is enough to say 10-20 times during the day mentally or aloud the selected affirmations, without changing their text each time, so that they begin to work and affect the subconscious.

Wrong time, wrong place …

Strictly speaking, there are no rules about what affirmations should be said at a certain time and in a certain setting. However, it is best to do this kind of psychological practice in the morning and before bed.

Often people who are faced with the fact that affirmations do not work are negligent in this method. They speak the mindset "on the run", constantly being distracted by some business and little things. At such a moment, there is neither awareness nor attitude. In addition, if affirmations are spoken through force, without desire and concentration, just because "it is necessary", then there will be no effect or it will come after too much time.
