So how do you understand where the manipulation is, and where is the truth? And what should be done in order not to become an object of manipulative actions?

There are a number of manipulative tactics and strategies that are most commonly used in the media:

  • Whipping up emotions. Perhaps every consumer of information at least once in his life has caught this technique. Quite often, especially on television, presenters begin to spread panic and fear in society for no apparent reason. At the same time, their tone of speech changes, becoming sharper and more abrupt. A feeling is formed as if the authors of this or that program give out banal things as a great revelation, thereby intimidating viewers with their manipulative influence.
  • Links to undefined sources. You may have noticed that sometimes the presenters try to influence our consciousness by referring to someone else's opinion. But if you hear words and phrases like "in the opinion of the majority," "some said," "some think," then you should know that such sources of information should by no means be considered authoritative. And, most likely, the authors of the program are simply inventing the data they need.
  • Fabrication of facts. This type of manipulation is used by the most fearless presenters, who will think over non-existent facts, similar to real ones, and then introduce them into our consciousness. And we, in turn, take them for the truth.
  • Using repetitions. On television and radio, the tactic of repeating some information is very often used. For example, in one of the Russian documentaries the phrase "Marketers are deceiving us all" is often repeated. After its pronunciation, unconvincing facts are usually cited to prove the existence of this deception. Such repetitions quite effectively affect our subconscious and form mental attitudes, personal worldview.
  • Aggression. This strategy is especially in demand on various political shows, when the presenters, using special speech patterns, as well as means of artistic expression, aggressively speak out about any problem. We pick up his mood and unconsciously begin to agree with him.

There are many other manipulation techniques, but the ones listed above are most in demand in modern media. And in order to avoid speech impact, you need to have information about manipulations and know that they are still used in all media. It is necessary to understand that each fact should have its own evidence, each opinion - a deep analysis of the situation. If all this is not there, then perhaps you should not trust unverified data. In such cases, you need to make every effort to check their authority yourself.
