In childhood, mothers read fairy tales to children in which the hero stood at a crossroads and chose his direction. A stone helped him in this, on which it was written what the road was waiting for him. There are no such stones in ordinary, not fairy-tale life. At the same time, everyone wants to choose their own path. So people have to come up with a substitute for such a stone and decide what they would like in life, how this can be achieved and how not to regret their life at the end of this path.

Trust yourself

To understand what you want in life, you need to trust yourself, your desires, your emotions and feelings that arise during the performance of a certain activity.

If a person likes to do something since childhood, then parents need to help their child do what he loves. Wrong are those parents who impose their unfulfilled desires on their children, some popular profitable activities, etc. Many people who have achieved success have achieved it precisely in those matters that they were interested in doing. Money is only a means to achieve other goals, not an end in itself. Money for the sake of money means absolutely nothing to a person.

If one day a person realizes that he does not want to get up in the morning and go to his usual, but unloved work, you need to listen to the voice of your “I”. Of course, changing everything at once, burning bridges and quitting your job is not worth it, but you can find yourself a hobby, interesting entertainment that will bring pleasure, and in the near future, possibly income. Being open to new activities and experiences that life itself constantly offers is the main guarantee of knowing yourself.

Write down goals

Any goals should be written down on paper. So they are clothed in some specific form, and not vaguely exist in the head. Goals and desires that are not expressed in writing do not represent anything for people and some higher powers in which they believe.

You can work on your goal list once a month or once a week. Some of them will be removed, which means that they were a momentary desire, others will be clarified, and, of course, new ones will appear. Only in this way can a person understand what he really wants in life.

There is one good way to find out what goals are really important and meaningful for a person. To do this, you need to imagine that the goal has already been achieved, and to play this situation, i.e. you need to react to achieving your success in some specific desired business. The essence of the method is that for those goals that are imposed by society or are simply set to maintain status, most likely, there will be no emotional reaction or it will be very weak.

Imagine the future

Another effective technique for understanding what a person wants from life is introducing himself to an adult. Not even adults, but old ones. A person, imagining that he is already 80-90 years old, looks back at his life and evaluates it. Here it is important to realize what you would like to experience, comprehend and achieve in this life, what you would like to be proud of, what to leave behind, etc. After all, one of the global human desires is always a simple and banal thing: at a moment that no one expects, people should not be excruciatingly hurt for the wasted time of their unique and inimitable life.
