The sudden transition from summer to school days is stressful not only for children, but also for parents. What can you do to help your child adjust to school?
If your child is going to first grade, don't give him any extra shocks. You don't need to take him to the sea so that he can rest before a difficult school year or arrange repairs in his room. It is best if the child spends August in a familiar environment, with his parents, and even gets a little bored. So school will become a pleasant variety for him.
In the first days and even months after the start of the school year, sleep is very important. This does not mean that further it ceases to matter, but in the first months it is critically important. A primary school student should sleep at least 10-11 hours. This is so unusually high that in most families this norm is not observed. But it is the fulfillment of this rule that is the guarantee that the adaptation will be smooth.
Be sure to find time for walks, games and watching cartoons and films together. The child needs a feeling of stability, a feeling that some pleasant, soothing things in his new world have remained unchanged.
You don't have to do your homework with your child. But be sure to discuss each school day, vividly ask the child about feelings, not about successes: what did you like, what did you dislike? What scared, what was difficult, where did he get upset?
