Take a pen and a piece of paper. If your date of birth is in January or early February, be sure to check it against the lunar calendar. Step 2
Add the third and fourth digits of your year of birth. You have to add up the numbers until you get one number. For example, if you were born in 1968, it will look like this: 6 + 8 = 14; 1 + 4 = 5.
Step 3
If your gender is male, subtract the resulting figure from 10. In the case of 1968, it will look like this: 10-5 = 5. If you (or your son or grandson) were born after 2000, subtract from 9.

If your gender is female, then add 5. If you were born in 1968, then: 5 + 5 = 10; 1 + 0 = 1. If you (or your daughter or granddaughter) were born after 2000, then add not to 5, but to 6.
Step 5
This last digit is your gua number. If you got the following numbers: 1, 3, 4, 9, then you are from the East group. If the numbers 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 became the result of your calculations, then your group is the group of the West. People who belong to one of the groups are in opposition to the other direction. For example, if you belong to the East group, then it is highly undesirable for you to sleep or sit with your head (face) to the West.
Step 6
Determine the directions that are most favorable for your group. For the eastern group, the following are favorable: East, South, North and Southeast. For the western group, the following are favorable: West, Southwest, Northwest and Northeast.
