Step 1
The first and foremost thing that you cannot do without is a personal example. You yourself must love to read books (and not just the Internet news feed or blogs), and children should see you quite often with a book in your hands.
Step 2
When the child is still very young (it is never too early to start, it is better from the first week of life), talk to him. Buy a book with nursery rhymes and short poems for children and tell them to your child when you change clothes, feed, carry on your hands. All this is necessary both for the emotional development of the baby and for the development of speech. If a child has a poor vocabulary by the age of three, it will be very difficult for him to read, since he simply will not understand what is being said.
Step 3
Choose books for children by age (usually the book itself indicates what age it is intended for) and read as often as possible. Introduce this activity to your child as something exciting: "Now we will have dinner, wash the dishes and sit down with you to read. I wonder what happened to Thumbelina next?" If you promised your child to read, be sure to take the time for this and do not be distracted by anything else. Let him understand that this is important and interesting.
Step 4
When reading books, try to do this as artistically as possible: slightly change your voice for different characters, pause, observe the "fabulously unhurried" rhythm. Emotionally colored reading helps the child to comprehend speech better, and also makes it clear that reading is something unusual and interesting. After all, mom (or dad) usually does not speak at all like that.
Step 5
When your child begins to read on their own, choose well-published books with high-quality illustrations. See if this book will give the child joy, will it awaken his own imagination? Be constantly interested in what the child is reading, discuss reading with him.
