Psychological features of mature age

Maturity is the longest period of a person's life. According to various sources, it varies from thirty - thirty five to sixty - sixty five years, depending on the individual characteristics of a person. Mature age comes when a certain life experience is obtained. For some, maturity is just numbers in a passport, while others noticeably lose interest in life, and more and more often slip the words: “Where should I go to clubs / short skirts / study / move (underline the necessary), because I am already thirty / forty / fifty years old.

In adulthood, a person acquires and reveals new qualities: self-confidence, the ability to support others, realism, a desire to share his experience. Undoubtedly, in this age period there is no longer youthful maximalism, a person understands and accepts himself as he is. He knows how to prioritize and admit his mistakes.

During the period of maturity, there are often two psychological crises: thirty and forty years old, when it is important to rethink your life and draw conclusions about how to live on.

The crisis of thirty or the crisis of the meaning of life

The crisis of thirty years is, of course, a conditional concept. It may come a little earlier or a little later. The crisis manifests itself in the fact that a person feels the need to radically change something in his life, and a reassessment of values takes place. For men and women, this crisis also proceeds in different ways. Women often change their family and career priorities. Those who have invested all their strength in their careers before thirty begin to think about the importance of marriage and raising children. And those who have already started a family direct their energies to moving up the career ladder.

During a crisis, men change their way of life and work, often think about changing their profession.

The severity of experiencing a crisis can also be different - it is a slight feeling that something is missing, to chronic anxiety and depression.

Forty Years Crisis or Midway Crisis

The crisis of forty years often proceeds against the background of family troubles: conflicts in marriage, with children who become independent, the loss of parents. If the spouses were not connected by anything other than children, then the marriage may end in divorce. Forty years is the age when the results of the previous life are summed up.

The crisis of forty years is more pronounced in men, here the saying “gray hair in a beard - a devil in a rib” is well suited, especially if a man does not feel that he has realized himself.

It is possible to successfully pass the period of crisis only if you look at the world without rose-colored glasses, understand what I can and what cannot, and accept that all people are not eternal.
