Every day you have to deal with a huge variety of images, information, impressions and emotions. To remember all this, you need a photographic memory. But this is such an ability that is subject only to a few. However, it can be developed.
Photographic memory is also called eidetic. It is a unique phenomenon in the human brain. With its help, you can memorize all the people you meet, the smallest details of various events, the text of the books you read, and much more.
There are not so many people with eidetic memory. But it can be developed. Naturally, you will not have all the abilities that people with an innate skill have. But with regular exercise, you will be able to significantly improve your memory.
Aivazovsky method
You should include this technique in your photographic memory training. It is believed that Aivazovsky was able to reproduce the seascape he saw with almost one hundred percent accuracy. That is why his paintings were realistic.
A little later, psychologists developed a method aimed at developing photographic memory. It was named after the famous marine painter. You need to do the following:
- choose one subject;
- examine it carefully for 5 minutes;
- close your eyes and draw an object in your thoughts, describe it in great detail;
- open your eyes and see where you went wrong;
- if there were any inaccuracies, repeat the exercise;
- if no mistakes were made, take a more complex subject and reduce the observation time.
Association game and text analysis
How to develop photographic memory? Learn to form associations in your mind. For example, Santa Claus in our memory is strongly associated with winter, holidays and gifts. Your task is to create such connections.
Associations should be non-standard, original, bright and sonorous. Otherwise, they can simply be forgotten.
Memorizing text is another great exercise for photographic memory. It is necessary to print regular text on one sheet. On the second sheet, you need to print the same text, but with 2-3 new words. This task must be performed by another person.
You need to read the original version of the text, memorize it, and then take the second sheet and find those words that were added later. In the process of training photographic memory, you can add more words and reduce the time to memorize.
Additional exercises
- Place several matches on one table in random order. It is desirable that there are not too few of them, but not too many. 6 will be enough. Remember their position, then turn away and place other matches on another surface in exactly the same position. This must be done from memory. Then compare the two pictures.
- When shopping or commuting to work, try to remember the objects you encounter. Count houses, trees, signs, benches, etc. Repeat the procedures on the way back. The resulting numbers must match.
- Change routes regularly. For example, go to work on one road and return on the other.
- Visit places you haven't been to more often.
- Before going to bed, read a certain text several times, and in the morning try to repeat it.
As you develop phenomenal memory, you open up new possibilities for yourself. It will be easier to achieve success in all areas of life. However, do not forget about the harm. If you get carried away with memory development too much, internal images can overshadow reality over time.
