The metamodel is a fundamental study in the theory of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). It helps a person to better understand the interlocutor, and vice versa - to more accurately express his own thought.
The entire vocabulary of all the languages of the world and any means of verbal communication is not enough to fully convey all your experiences and feelings. The deep and superficial structures of the language differ so much that the interlocutor does not always correctly understand the original idea of the speaker.
The transformation and contraction of thought during its transition into verbal form occurs due to several factors. First of all, many of our thoughts are outside of words. They cannot be expressed in sentences. In addition, the creators of the metamodel identified three modeling processes that prevent us from accurately conveying information: omission, distortion, and generalization.
The metamodel is used to bridge this huge gap between deep structure (experiences) and surface structure (verbalized thought). This is an effective and fairly simple NLP technique with which you can learn how to effectively use clarifying questions in communication.
The metamodel is useful in all areas of life related to communication. This can be an ordinary conversation with a friend, and an explanation by the performer of the customer's ideas, and the seller's clarification of the buyer's wishes, etc.
In addition to a complete and vivid understanding of the interlocutor's thoughts, the metamodel has another, no less positive side: the interlocutor feels your interest and benevolence, which is one of the most important components of the active listening skill.
