Sadness can be light and painful, light and depressing, fleeting and very strong, turning into melancholy and despondency. This feeling is familiar to many, and the reasons people feel sad are vast and varied.
Where does sadness come from?
Despite the fact that sadness and sadness are familiar to many, it is difficult to describe this state. According to psychologists, sadness is an emotional response to something negative, representing a short-term and not very deep experience. Often, sadness is not even caused by events that happened in real life, but only by thinking about them. For pessimistic people, sadness can even accompany plans - they doubt their strengths and capabilities in advance, starting to grieve already before starting an important business. Sadness can also be part of nostalgia, when people recall the events of the past days, experiencing vague sadness that they can no longer be returned.
The reasons for sadness are very varied. If some people, faced with serious life troubles, do not lose heart, while maintaining optimism, then for others it is enough to become involuntary witnesses of something not very pleasant or to hear minor music to feel sad. Emotionally unstable people are most susceptible to sadness, although, on the other hand, this feeling does not linger in them for a long time, quickly being replaced by other sensations.
My sorrow is light
There are many musical works, as well as movies or books, that evoke sad emotions. Despite the fact that they do not cause the most joyful sensations, their popularity is very high. What is the secret of the demand for such "minor" art? Perhaps people are attracted by the opportunity to experience feelings, albeit not very pleasant, but associated with important periods of their lives. Almost everyone has had so-called "black bars" throughout their life. However, as you know, the night is darkest before dawn, and after painful periods, sooner or later, a neutral or more positive one sets in. Experiencing sadness, nostalgia or even melancholy under the influence of sad music or a movie, people try to normalize their emotional background - in everything, according to experts, there should be a balance. A person cannot always be joyful or sad, emotions tend to replace each other.
When sadness can hurt
However, if the sadness does not go away, but worsens, and the person is no longer able to determine the causes of his condition, the help of specialists may be needed. If sadness is considered more of a shade of mood, then depression or anxiety, into which it can turn, can affect physical well-being. Mild sadness that a person experiences from time to time is not considered a serious symptom. But in cases where people begin to feel apathy, melancholy and discouragement, this may indicate the onset of depression. When such conditions arise, especially if a person does not succumb to the attempts of others to "shake" him and get out of this situation, it is better to seek help from a psychologist.
