The ability of a person to independently, without looking back at others, to set moral goals and control their implementation is called conscience. This is one of the most important factors in allowing different people to get along with each other. With someone who has clear moral guidelines, others feel calm and stable, because they can rely on him. The ability to act in accordance with one's own concepts of good and evil gives confidence to the person himself. Anyone who asked himself the question of how to cultivate a conscience has already begun the path to self-improvement.
Necessary
- - striving for self-education;
- - concepts of what is good and what is bad;
- - notebook and pen.
Instructions
Step 1
Think about what actions you think are good, what are not the best, but acceptable, and what is unacceptable to you. Try to determine how often you do them and for what reasons. Maybe you just didn’t think that you were doing wrong. It is possible that the motive for this or that unseemly action was the fact that everyone does this. Get ready for the fact that at some moments you will have to act differently from those around you. For example, you will buy a ticket at the box office or pay a fine at the bank instead of giving a much smaller amount right on the spot. Keep in mind that others may not understand you and may even judge you.
Step 2
Do at least one good and right thing every day. Do not try to re-educate yourself immediately and do not set yourself unbearable tasks. It is better to plan one good deed in advance and think about which of the unseemly you are quite able to resist. This must be done at all costs. Praise yourself, but don't brag about your accomplishments to others. Good deeds are needed above all for you.
Step 3
Before making a promise, consider whether you have the strength to keep it. Never promise what you know you can't. But if you have promised something to someone, by all means keep your word. Understand that the person is counting on your decency, and do not let him down.
Step 4
Learn to say no. This is very important, especially in situations where you are asked to do something contrary to your beliefs. Very many good people often commit unseemly acts solely because they were unable to refuse. Learn to refuse, even if it may negatively affect your career or relationships with loved ones. Be prepared for the fact that you will have to end the relationship with some of your colleagues or family members altogether.
Step 5
Remember that acting according to your conscience does not at all mean yielding to others in everything and reckoning exclusively with their interests to the detriment of your own. Conscience is primarily a tool for protecting the rights of all members of society. If you do your job honestly, both you and your customer will win. But at the same time, you should not at all compromise your rights and, for example, refuse to pay. Learn to defend what you think is right.
Step 6
Understand that the responsibility for your actions lies entirely with you. Do not try to shift the blame for them onto others or circumstances. Attempts to justify themselves will not lead to anything good. Learn to correct the consequences of your unseemly actions. After a while, you will feel that the surest way to maintain inner balance is to act according to your conscience.
