Almost 90% of people have ever felt a sense of the repetition of a situation, or déjà vu, which in French means “seen already”. The reasons for the appearance of such sensations are not fully understood. However, thanks to the efforts of specialists, a research base in the field of psychiatry has been formed, opening the veil of the mystery of the origin of déjà vu.
Main reasons
From the point of view of psychiatry, the appearance of déjà vu is possible in the following cases:
- age-related crises associated with puberty and accompanied by high psycho-emotional stress;
- regular stressful situations;
- chronic fatigue, leading to a depressed state of the nervous system;
- in rare cases, serious brain abnormalities.
There is also a version that forgotten dreams sooner or later emerge in real life through the effect of déjà vu. That is, the brain begins to actively function in a similar situation and releases peripheral memories of sleep.
Should you be afraid of déjà vu?
If you accept the scientific point of view of the emergence of déjà vu, then, of course, you should not be intimidated by such a phenomenon. The only exception to the rule is when deja vu occurs frequently and is accompanied by strong emotional outbursts, as well as panic attacks. In this case, it is necessary to visit a qualified specialist and undergo a complex of examinations in order to exclude serious brain pathologies. In other cases, deja vu is a normal reaction of the human psyche to events in life.
