To justify lazy people and idlers who constantly leave everything for later, the obscure term "procrastination" was coined (translated from English procrastination means delay). Together with him, ideal conditions for doing nothing were created. If earlier sloth-seekers had to somehow justify their laziness, today it is enough to mention this sonorous word so that those around them begin to look at them with respect. But how does the delayed action syndrome actually arise?
Anxious
According to psychologists, the most common cause of procrastination is increased anxiety. A person tends to be afraid of ridicule, criticism, large financial costs, failure and much more. That is why a long-standing conflict, for the resolution of which it is necessary to sort things out once and for all or even ask for forgiveness, forces most people to postpone the conversation over and over again. They reassure themselves that it is better to wait for the right moment to resolve the situation. In other words, they are engaged in self-deception.
Another common example of an increased level of anxiety is the postponement of hospital visits. It is better to endure pain than to get unpleasant procedures or to hear an unexpected diagnosis. At such moments, it is recommended to act according to the scheme "first into battle, and then we'll see." Fears tend to be grossly exaggerated, and a business-like approach quickly replaces a gloomy, pessimistic mood.
Hard
At first glance, many cases seem very complicated. So complex that you can't figure out where to start. Buying a car, repairing an apartment, moving to another job, starting a family - for many, any of these options takes months or even years. For a quick and successful completion of the case, you can break its implementation into several stages. How, for example, can you move a large mountain of sand from one place to another without special equipment? It is very simple - with the help of a shovel and a wheelbarrow, transport it in small portions. The same is with the renovation. Depending on the completeness of the wallet, the dwelling is divided into sections, in which repair work is carried out in turn.
Breaking down a complex case into stages with a record of all the steps and details will allow you to see the whole picture without overloading the brain. Otherwise, the gray matter in our head can refuse to solve problems, "freezing" like a computer.
No matter
Almost each of us often accumulates various small tasks, the implementation of which can be done at any time. But for some reason, a pile of utility bills continues to grow on the shelf, music CDs taken for a couple of days are covered with dust, and there is so much ice in the freezer that nothing can fit into it. In this regard, one of the professors at Stanford University proposed to structure procrastination. That is, to force a person who shirks one thing to do another - more enjoyable and at the same time useful. This will at least significantly reduce the feeling of guilt.
Not interested
Psychologists have come to the conclusion that the level of procrastination is much lower when a person hopes for a quick, and most importantly, pleasant effect from a completed case. Therefore, you need to try to see something interesting in the task, otherwise it will remain in the plans. For example, imagine what nice things the bonus will be spent on at the end of the project, or how many "likes" a funny video posted on the Internet will receive.
Impossible
Sometimes it’s more like a dream. I really want it to come true beautifully, non-trivially, on a grand scale. Because of this, there is never enough money or time to organize it. Here it is necessary to understand the priorities - which is more important: a beautiful, but such a distant dream or its realization. People who have a periodic need to fly in the clouds can be advised to continue in the same spirit, and those who really want to achieve a goal should break down the task step by step and, without hesitation, begin to carry it out.
