A true spiritual mentor is the best patron on the spiritual path, a reliable protection from self-deception and delusion. If a person cannot find a spiritual teacher for himself, then, most likely, he is not yet ready for a sincere relationship.

The spiritual teacher can be a priest to whom you constantly confess. When choosing a confessor, consider this issue judiciously. Pay attention to the behavior of the priest. If he is calm, indulgent, patient, ready to listen to you and grieve with you or rejoice for you, then he can become your real spiritual teacher.

A real confessor is much better than anyone, even the most experienced psychologist. After all, he is given the grace-filled gift of God's love, and this love itself finds words of consolation.

Never let a priest suppress your own will, take possession of it. Don't make him a "holy guru." After all, a confessor is a priest who confesses and gives comforting, good advice. He should not intimidate you with hell and eternal torment.

Before choosing a spiritual mentor for yourself, think about your actions and attitude towards people. Perhaps you do not trust those around you, your family and friends. Become a little open to them and then they will be able to listen to you and provide assistance in matters of concern to you.
