Modesty and tact are, of course, positive character traits. However, you must remember: in order to succeed in life and business, you need to have your own opinion on various issues, as well as be able to express and defend your point of view.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a closer look at people who are free to express their thoughts. Pay attention to how they argue their position, what methods of persuasion they use, and how the listeners react to them.
Step 2
Train yourself. During the conversation, find controversial points and try to mentally connect them to your point of view. For example, watch a television talk show about a topic of interest. When opposing sides defend their position, become an opponent of one of the sides. Try to mentally form your opinion on the covered issue, give arguments.
Step 3
Trust in yourself. Your ideas, thoughts are as important in the conversation as the statements of the interlocutor. Do not be afraid that they will not agree with you or that they will not understand you. Do not doubt that you are right.
Step 4
During the discussion, try to find like-minded people who adhere to your point of view on the issue under discussion. Support will give you confidence.
Step 5
Have an internal dialogue with yourself. Ask yourself a question - why did you not express your position in this or that situation, what prevented you. Once you find the reason for your silence, try to overcome it. For example, you might be hampered by self-doubt when talking to your boss. You need to understand that your opinion is usually interested in those issues in which you understand. They turn to you because you are a professional in the matter under discussion.
Step 6
Ignore the surroundings, distractions and confusing factors that often make it difficult to formulate your thoughts correctly and find the right words. Constantly improve your vocabulary, read more. After reading an interesting book, article, or watching a TV show, discuss it with your friends, family members. Start keeping a personal journal.
Step 7
Try to express your opinion as often as possible in different settings - with your family, with friends, in public places. Over time, the shyness and stiffness will disappear and it will be easier to speak your mind.
