Schizophrenia is a rather mysterious disease that is difficult to explain. A person, as it were, exists in his personal reality, which draws in deeper and deeper and literally turns life into a dream. Until now, the debate continues about where the division is between pathology and eccentricity of thinking.
Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that often leads to disability. Until now, psychiatrists cannot find out the true cause of this disease, despite many years of research. The leading role is played by hereditary predisposition. Head trauma, mental trauma and previous illnesses are of secondary importance, acting as an activator of the process of psychopathology. Schizophrenia is characterized by gradually increasing changes in thinking and perception, speech and social activity, motivations and feelings. Most often, the disease occurs at the age of 15-25 years and has a certain progressive course. The schizophrenic is, as it were, on the other side of good and evil, changing the rules of the game in life. He avoids communicating with people, preferring to talk to himself, the meanings of words change arbitrarily. The patient's quirkiness very often causes irritation among others. He can laugh merrily when he learns about the death of a loved one. Sometimes patients recklessly risk their lives, refusing to drink and eat, and sexual activity is almost imperceptible and sometimes inadequate. Also, schizophrenics have impaired motor activity, strange actions and obsessive gestures, catatonic stupor (that is, finding a person for a long time in a motionless state and in an unnatural posture) may be present in it. Unique delusional ideas are an integral attribute of a schizophrenic patient, it can be the theme of physical persecution, a fatal illness, a special mission or the end of the world. The most characteristic and interesting symptom of this disease is a distortion of the perception of reality. The patient may actually feel that his mouth is on his stomach or bones are too light. Looking at himself from the outside, the schizophrenic can perceive his own person as a biomachine, or he can identify with the carpet and scream in pain when he is knocked out. In the perception of the patient, characters appear that no one else sees: angels, demons or outlandish animals. The primary diagnosis and further treatment of the disease is carried out by a psychiatrist. Very often, hospitalization in a psychiatric ward is necessary for the examination of a patient. An affirmative diagnosis is made when schizophrenia has lasted for at least six months. If someone from your family or friends suffers from this disease, do not push him away, remember that changes in personality and character are only a manifestation of the disease. Try to follow the regularity of the medication prescribed by your doctor. Changing the dosage or unauthorized withdrawal of drugs can lead to a worsening of the condition.
