Each of us is familiar with changes in mood. It so happens that we feel "in seventh heaven" with happiness and overwhelming emotions, and it happens, and vice versa, we feel tired and tense.
Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder that can take many forms of severity and is also called manic-depressive psychosis. Patients with this diagnosis are prone to mood swings, depression of all kinds, and adrenaline cravings. In some cases, patients develop persecution mania, suicidal tendencies, fear of society and large crowds.
Many modern actors, singers, writers suffer from bipolar disorder, and this to some extent helps them to develop creatively, however, there are artists whose lives and careers have been threatened by this disease. For example, the English actor and writer Stephen Fry nearly committed suicide, falling into a deep depression after reading a negative review of the play in which he played.
There is little cure for bipolar disorder at this time. Of course, there are medications, but they are addictive and contribute to the deterioration of the patient's well-being if he stops taking these drugs. Also, shock therapy was previously practiced, and such treatment was compulsory, but soon patients began to be given a choice. Now these methods are almost never used.
Many people suffer from bipolar disorder without even knowing it. Of course, there are those who, having similar problems, live a happy and successful life, but according to statistics, this is only one percent out of a hundred.
