Anyone can be sentimental. Even the most violent in real life. Sentimentality is a kind of inner state of mind, when insignificant memories or what they see affects a person's feelings, and not his mind. Sentimentality is similar to pity, but unlike it, it is instantaneous and fleeting. Sentimentality manifests itself when watching sad movies or reading books, when remembering any moments in life.
Instructions
Step 1
Sentimentality is always expressed brightly, emotionally. A person often cannot restrain these manifestations of feelings: a lump rises in the throat, tears go unceasingly and sobs begin.
A sense of sentimentality arises when a person puts himself in the shoes of the protagonist of a movie or book. He feels the same as he does, and tries to help morally, worries.
Step 2
Most often, women are sentimental. In the male body there are hormones that are responsible for the expression of feelings and male calmness. It is these hormones that do not allow the aching feeling from within to escape. But with age, these hormones decrease in quantity and men become more susceptible to manifestations of sentimentality.
Step 3
Excessive sentimentality often prevents people from living. For many, it is a shame to cry in public and thus show their weakness. But, restraining feelings constantly, a person accumulates emotions inside himself. This is fraught with heart disease or mental illness. Therefore, you should not completely get rid of sentimentality, but you can try to reduce its manifestations. To do this, it is worth repeating simple exercises for several weeks.
Step 4
During these few weeks, enrich your vocabulary with words that represent your feelings and experiences. Use them in your daily life. This will help you release some of your emotions.
Step 5
When you commute to work on the subway or on the bus, take a closer look at the people. Try to guess what they are thinking at the moment, how they feel.
This is the same exercise you can do at home during the evening. A big plus at home is that you can ask your loved ones about their thoughts and concerns. Chances are you guessed what they were thinking.
Step 6
To get rid of sentimentality, choose a certain situation when you cannot contain the influx of feelings. And in these moments, try to experience all the feelings and emotions that fill you. These moments will help you understand how you react to certain moments and decide when you can hold back. By doing these exercises, you will not build up emotions in yourself. After a while, you can check yourself if you are managing to hold back. Just watch a sad movie that used to evoke feelings of sentimentality. If the exercises didn't work for you, then it's worth considering whether it is so bad to be an open person.
Step 7
If sentimentality does not interfere with your life, then you should not get rid of it. Sentimental people better understand the meaning of a film or book, they worry more and more deeply about other people and animals, try to help them. In some situations, you should not hide your feelings, because openness brings people closer. You need to try to control yourself at work, and be who you are among friends and family.
