Reduced concentration of attention greatly affects the performance of a person, the results of his activities. After all, so often during work / school hours we notice that already half of the lecture or meeting we are thinking about the wrong things.
What is attention?
Attention is the selective focus of our consciousness on a specific object, the concentration of a person on some object. Attention is involuntary and voluntary. Involuntary (passive) attention arises regardless of a person's consciousness, if an object is too strong a stimulus (loud, harsh, unexpected) or corresponds to the interests and motivations of a person. To improve concentration and performance, you need to develop voluntary attention. It is by its nature much more complex than passive, because the volitional efforts of a person must be applied to it.
Attention and memory
Attention and memory are very closely related to each other, because we improve concentration of attention precisely in order to concentrate, realize and remember the material without undue effort. We remember the subject the better, the longer and more strongly we concentrate our attention on it.
Tips to improve your concentration
1. You need to set yourself up for the fact that the material being studied will definitely come in handy in the future, ie. … You can think of a couple of examples where knowing this information would be a big advantage.
2. Make the learning process more emotional, brighter and more fun for yourself. You can do this by finding interesting and even exciting facts in the material, creatively approach the design of lectures, rewarding yourself for achieving the next goal. This is also a kind of motivation, only external, aimed not at the subject of study itself, but at the positive emotions associated with it.
3. Often during work or study, we cannot concentrate due to noise, conversations, sounds from the street. It is possible to get accustomed to focused work, regardless of yourself. Try reading a book with the music or TV on, or learning a poem in a noisy, crowded place. After a couple of workouts, you will notice how much easier it has become for you not to pay attention to extraneous sounds.
4. Do only one activity at a time. By doing several things at once, we not only overload our brain, but also do not really concentrate on each of these tasks. If you expect productive results from every activity, do one thing first, then another.
5. As mentioned above, concentration is very closely related to memory. Now there are thousands of games and exercises on. Improve it, it will greatly help you in all kinds of activities.
6. Lead. Oddly enough, but this also applies to concentration. If the body lacks nutrients and sleep, then you will feel tired, and there can be no question of any concentration and speech. Monitor your diet, ensure that all essential vitamins and minerals are in your body, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and get enough sleep.
