Many people want to become rich because they think it will bring them happiness. However, it is not so easy to achieve wealth. In attempts to improve the financial situation, you can, as they say, lose the latter. But why risk it in vain? Is it possible to achieve happiness by remaining poor?
The main secrets of happiness in poverty
There are a lot of both single people and married couples who, despite their modest financial situation, are joyful, smiling and generally happy with their lot.
And the main secret here is simple: you need to learn not to envy others and give up unfulfilled desires. Buddha also said (and Buddha was very wise) that desires are the cause of people's suffering.
It is quite obvious that if you do not want, for example, a cool car, then you will not worry about its absence either. This also applies to a huge number of other things.
You just need to tune yourself to the right wave and generally not pay attention to what you do not have (and, most likely, let's be honest, will never appear) money. It is necessary to understand that many expensive items are redundant and meaningless, and life is simple and beautiful.
The second secret is to be able to enjoy the little things: a walk along a summer street, your favorite TV show on TV, a pleasant sleep, cold ice cream … Ultimately, these little things make up our days, weeks, years.
And one more secret: in no case should you reproach yourself for not working in a very prestigious job and earning little. Perhaps this job has other merit. Perhaps you are just comfortable being in this team and do not want to strain too much and experience constant stress.
You just need to realize that you yourself have chosen the path of a quiet life, and not fierce competition for banknotes. And this choice is worthy of respect. There are many other things in the world that are much more important than a career.
And in general, even if a person does not have money, he may well be useful to his environment - acquaintances, friends, relatives. For example, on Sunday he can help his grandma to dig up a vegetable garden in the garden. Why not? When a person does good to those around him, as a rule, he himself becomes a little better. His self-esteem rises, and this is very important in this case.
In order to feel happy, it will also not be superfluous to find some kind of hobby that will make your leisure time more meaningful. You can write poetry, make soap, play the guitar, or pick up some other hobby that doesn't require a lot of investment.
Together it is more interesting, for one it is easier
It is very cool when a poor man has a certain companion (wife or just a friend). Together, after all, whatever one may say, it is more interesting. But she must necessarily share his philosophy and approach to life.
If the companion constantly demands from the man that he becomes financially successful, if she is indignant about the lack of some material wealth, then nothing will work. The couple will drown in squabbles, quarrels and mutual reproaches.
It is not a fact that there is a suitable companion, and therefore, in order to be happy in poverty, a man needs to be self-sufficient in general and be able to accept his loneliness. And in fact, when you look at it, there are many benefits to being alone.
Poor and happy countries and people
In our society, alas, there is still a fairly widespread misconception that wealth and happiness are almost synonymous. But this is not at all the case. Even statistics speaks about it. There is a special ranking of countries according to the index of happiness - World Happiness Report. The data of this rating is published annually, and often not the most economically developed countries are in high positions in it. So, for example, in 2019, Guatemala, one of the countries of Central America, was in 27th place in this ranking. At the same time, in terms of GDP per capita for the same 2019, Guatemala is not even included in the first hundred.
And, of course, what is relevant for countries is also relevant for individuals. This means that a poor man can really be happy. But for this he needs to work on his inner world, come to terms with himself and not succumb to consumerist sentiments.
