We do not hear the interlocutor. We do not hear, because we do not want to hear or cannot hear it, but there are more reasons for this. This interferes with effective dialogue, and in the end, the person loses interest in both the dialogue and us. To prevent this from happening, you need to learn to hear. Unfortunately, having a pair of ears is not enough for this.

Step 1
Forget about your own self for the duration of the dialogue. His, like your opinion on the issues being discussed, simply does not exist. Breathe literally with the other person's words. Think about what he meant by this or that word, ask him questions, maintain a dialogue.
Step 2
Support the topics that the interlocutor suggests. Ultimately, the only way to get to know someone is to help them speak directly and openly. And the fact that you provide him with support and show your interest in what is happening, you do exactly that.
Step 3
Don't interrupt the other person. Listen to it to the end, if the topic reaches a dead end, unobtrusively offer to change the topic.
Step 4
Do not judge by word or gesture the words of your interlocutor. Remember that everything he says is invaluable information that he himself conveys to you. Listen to him carefully, and when answering a question, try to use words from his vocabulary. Do it gently and subtly.
Step 5
Maintain interest in the other person. Find any detail in it and project your interest in the detail on the whole interlocutor. In this way, you do not have to pretend to be interested - you will be so.
