Often from adults, mature and elderly people, you can hear regrets that they did not have time to do something, did not trust themselves and their desires, did not take a chance once and did not fulfill everything they dreamed of. At the end of their life, the heroes of the film "Until I Played in the Box" (The Bucket List, 2007) had the opportunity to do a lot of things that they had not done in their entire lives. What if others will not have such an opportunity? In order not to regret the years spent aimlessly, you just need to learn to hear yourself - your inner voice.

More often than not, people begin to listen to themselves in moments of great upheaval, loss, or great setback. When there is no time and energy left to somehow resolve the current situation, a person finally turns inward, to his inner resources, to his inner voice, to himself. But you don't have to wait for the so-called push. You can and even need to listen and hear your inner voice, at first barely breaking out, in order to live a life in which you would not want to change anything later.

Remember the "inner child"

Everyone is taught from childhood how to live, how to get married or look for a wife, how and where to study, how to build a career and how important it is to gain a high status in society. But for some reason no one teaches that everyone has their own understanding of this “correct”. Inside every person from childhood sits a small child, stuffed with these rules and recommendations, who is afraid to say something or says, they just do not hear him. It is important to remember about him, this living inside and dreaming, perhaps about something unrealizable baby and let him break through. He will tell you what he would like and what, accordingly, will make his adult owner happy. If you cannot get him out on your own with the help of meditative techniques or persistent requests, you can turn to professionals - psychologists or psychotherapists for help, who will wake up that part of the person that is responsible for creativity.

Meditate

Being able to withdraw into yourself is also important for the ability to understand yourself and hear your inner self or inner voice. The ability to be alone with oneself can and should be developed. Many people cannot imagine life without background accompaniment in the form of conversations, an idle TV or tape recorder, radio or some other noise effects. But it is quite difficult to break through all these obstacles, because the inner voice deafens, not having time to convey true desires. You need to be able to get distracted from everything, and therefore it is important to master the simplest meditation techniques: just sit or lie in silence, trying to drive all thoughts out of your head and trying to perceive the truth. Advanced meditators may ask the question, "What do I want now?" and try to understand those images and thoughts that are born at this time in the head.

Disassemble dreams

If meditation is not yet available, and all thought processes do not stop in a tired brain, you can turn to the subconscious, which also tries to convey to everyone the voice of the inner I. The easiest way to understand what is happening in the subconscious is through the interpretation of dreams. Moreover, it is not necessary to read dream books or remember the interpretation of the dreams of the great and terrible Z. Freud, who saw a sexual background in everything, it is important to understand what images from dreams mean specifically for you. If there is a problem with remembering dreams, you can put a piece of paper with a pen right by the pillow and, barely waking up, write down at least a couple of lines about what was happening in your own reality. Then it will be easier to restore the entire chain.

Keep a diary

To understand what makes a person happy, you need to track your emotions and analyze their appearance. You can keep a diary, in which it is not necessary to write down the day lived by the minute, but to notice only what gave rise to the most powerful emotions (both positive and negative) during the day. This will allow you to better understand yourself, notice a change in mood and its causes, hear your inner voice and, possibly, begin to change your life or your attitude towards it.

Love yourself

One of the most important skills for hearing your inner voice is self-love, which includes trusting in yourself and accepting yourself. It is very important to treat yourself adequately, to compliment yourself, to accept them from others with gratitude, and not to try to justify yourself or refuse them. Self-criticism is certainly an important and necessary quality, but within reasonable limits. You also need to be able to praise yourself, and for every little thing, be it a hated kilogram lost at the end of the week or writing the next chapter of a future bestseller. Self-confidence is, of course, not blind indulgence in your momentary desires, although sometimes this is justified, but the ability to accept yourself, your thoughts and your feelings, even if from the outside they seem illogical and wrong. Life is given only once, so why spend it “right” for others when you can spend it “right” for yourself?
