The power and meaning of verbal expression of feelings

As you know, a word can hurt, and sometimes kill. On the other hand, there are words that can, if not resurrect, then help a person who is in a difficult life situation or experiencing severe stress. As psychologists advise, in such cases, not only words are important. For example, during verbal communication, do not forget about your posture (it should be open), then it will really become clear to a person that they are worried about him, they can take care and caress.

Saying affectionate words addressed to loved ones can sometimes be quite difficult, especially if it is not very common among members of a particular family. However, do not despair - if one of the relatives can express their warm feelings in words, it will be easier and more pleasant for the rest to follow his example, and also learn how to verbally show affection and care.

Warm and heartfelt words, not supported by similar and sincere feelings, can seem fake, having the exact opposite effect. However, some quite manage to mislead loved ones using a standard set of template phrases. Unfortunately, you can only understand how sincere a person is from your own experience, and sometimes mistakes can hurt.

Start with yourself? Why not

Unfortunately, some people require verbal expressions of love, affection and care from those around them, not appreciating their actual evidence too much. As the saying goes, “someone else's soul is darkness,” so in such cases it is worth learning to express your intentions in words.

You can start with yourself - think about what words you would like to hear from loved ones and relatives? By trying different intonations and expressions this way you can take the first step. According to psychologists, there is nothing wrong or shameful in standing in front of a mirror, praising or feeling sorry for yourself - this can also be the beginning of mastering verbal skills. Having expressed various warm words to the mirror, praising, and maybe sympathizing, it will be easier to say the same to another person.

Do not be afraid to be funny or sentimental, because words of sympathy and expressions of concern are not necessarily accompanied by diminutive suffixes and exude molasses. For someone, in particular, it will be useful and calming to have a stingy remark “I am with you”, coming from the soul itself, instead of a thousand words, behind which there are no emotions.

Skills, including verbal ones, improve over time, and it is impossible to predict in advance how long the process will be for this or that person. However, for many, this happens quite quickly. After verbally expressing care and affection, in return the person himself receives a lot of pleasant emotions, which, in turn, is a very good stimulus and contributes to the process.

However, we must not forget that verbal care needs to be reinforced by real actions. Words that will not follow can help for a while, however, then, instead of the promised care or affection, a person may expect an unpleasant surprise in the form of actual indifference or rudeness. It is not enough to say “I will help solve this problem” if you do not want to make any effort and waste time and change yourself.
