Ants and the Kamasutra
Vaughn Bryant, professor of anthropology at the University of Texas, in his professional publication on kissing, says that the first mention of a kiss dates back to 1000-2000 BC. This has been confirmed by excavations in northern India, and it seems that the kiss was then a matter of courtesy. Of course, it was not a kiss in the same concept as we know it now. The kiss of that time was more like sniffing, as part of it was rubbing the nose against the partner's face.
1000 years later, the kiss appears in the Kamasutra, but this time it is already, in fact, an erotic kiss, and the Kamasutra mentions it more than 200 times. From India to the west (in particular, to Greece), Alexander the Great probably brought the kiss, and this method instantly gained popularity among the Greeks. Since then, it has spread to other countries.
But there is also a theory that kissing originated from the ancient Romans, who noticed how the ants touched their jaws, as if, "pleasantly communicating." So they decided to try it themselves. Another theory is that kissing came from a practice where mothers chewed food for their children and then put it in their babies' mouths.
Nevertheless, for example, the ancient Finns considered kissing to be the pinnacle of profanity and rudeness, despite their habit of swimming naked together. For the Romans, the kiss was a tribute to the status of a person, even the parts of the body to which he belonged were differentiated. The kiss came to America with Columbus and, probably, it was the only thing that he brought with him, and for which the indigenous people were grateful. In the 16th century in Naples, kissing was considered an offense for which the death penalty was threatened.
