Before going to a specialist, you need to clearly define the range of your problems, then it will become clear who exactly to turn to. Be sure to ask for a certificate of education so as not to get an appointment with a charlatan.
Who should you contact if you have serious psychological problems? Consider the key specialists who can help you.
Psychologist
This is a person who has received a higher education in this specialty. You can turn to him for advice, but he will not be able to prescribe a diagnosis or treatment for you, he simply has no right to do so.
Psychiatrist
This is primarily a doctor. It is he who can diagnose and prescribe medications if necessary. Not only sick people, but also healthy people can come to his appointment; visiting this specialist does not mean that the patient will be registered in a mental dispensary. It can treat epilepsy, insomnia, phobias and other similar conditions.
Psychotherapist
This is a doctor who has worked as a psychiatrist for at least three years and has passed the appropriate certification. Only he can engage in psychotherapy (hypnosis, art therapy and other similar methods of treatment). He has the broadest powers, he can heal anyone and in any way.
Psychoanalyst
This is a psychotherapist who has the right to engage in psychological analysis of drawings and dreams. Note that in Russia they do not teach in such a specialty, therefore such a specialist must necessarily have a foreign education. But, even in this case, he will not be able to work in Russia in such a position. He can only use the elements of psychoanalysis in psychotherapy.
