Self-esteem is the totality of a person's ideas about themselves. If your thinking is focused on the negative aspects of your personality, then both in yourself and in the world you will notice and highlight only the bad. Positive situations and phenomena will fly past your eyes and ears. The way you think is a habit, which means that anyone can learn to focus on their strengths and forget about their weaknesses, thus cultivating self-esteem.

Self-esteem can be overestimated, normal and underestimated

A self-confident person sees his pluses and strives to cultivate them, has an active life position and, as a result, more chances for successful self-realization in different areas. Accepts criticism in a constructive way: not "oh my God, what a nonentity I am!", But "how can I change this to become better?"

So the way of thinking is a habit, a pattern. And if you once were able to learn to think in a certain way, you can also retrain yourself. For this, the following technique is intended. It is suitable for everyone, without exception, it takes a maximum of 5 minutes a day, but it brings tangible results.

The essence of this technique: start a notebook (notebook, leaf … whatever) and every day before going to bed, write down 5 of your achievements per day. Only 5, that's not much. You can write anything you want: I squeezed out 2 times, met a girl, got up with my right foot, washed the dishes (after all, if you were lazy, then this is a real achievement!). Perfectionism is not needed here: in order to count your action as an achievement, it is not necessary to perform a feat for the good of the Motherland. It can be any of your actions or inaction (smoked one cigarette less than yesterday).

After a while, you will notice that you are already involuntarily looking for the good in yourself, in your actions, in the events that happened to you. And as you re-read your notes, you will start thinking about what to do to improve your results. Competition with yourself is the best that can happen to a person)) Comparing yourself not with someone (I want a cooler car than my neighbor's), but with myself yesterday (today I am much better than a week, a month, a year ago) …

The technique teaches you to think positively, to see your advantages, and fosters self-esteem and the level of aspirations. And if today you want a cake, then tomorrow you allow yourself to want and strive for a whole cake.

By the way, the method is also suitable for small children. Even if the kid still does not know how to write, you can write down his little exploits from his own words (ate all the porridge, met a friend). In the future, he will learn to do it himself. A child who grows up with a sense of self-satisfaction turns into an active, purposeful and successful adult.
