Is addiction a deliberate choice? What is the parallel between addiction and mental health? All this will possibly be revealed in this article thanks to personal examples and life experience.
Is addiction a choice?
Quite a large number of people are trying to convince us that addiction to alcohol or any other drug is addiction. People who say this most likely have never even used a single drug. So what exactly is this or that dependence? Is it a deliberate choice or the person can no longer control himself?
Why do people become addicted?
There are many reasons why people start drinking or using other drugs. Here is some of them:
- dissatisfaction with life
- misfortune
- family problems
- depression
- low self-esteem
Different people react to problems and situations in different ways. Some people don't need drugs to cope or forget about problems. And someone prefers to cope with everything with the help of "doping". Whatever choice a person makes, you need to understand that he was conscious.
I'll tell you a story from my life. My attitude to alcohol was quite loyal, but I was not particularly fond of it. At some point in my life, everything turned upside down, and I just went crazy from the piled-up problems. I started drinking and it helped me. I knew perfectly well the consequences of alcohol and made an informed choice.
I drank for 2 months, almost every day and did not consider it an addiction. Nowadays, I drink much less often, but I still drink from time to time. For me, alcohol was not a drug around which everything revolves, only I made the decision.
The consequences of addiction
In my case with alcohol, the consequences manifested itself in the form of gastritis. Stomach problems sometimes respond quite strongly, and this is just one example. Alcohol, with a strong passion, plants the liver, and most importantly, it inhibits the thought processes in the brain. If you drink and are not addicted to anything to keep your mind normal, you will degrade over time.
When using cigarettes and caffeine, the heart will plant, tall people should control the rate of consumption of these stimulants. Due to the height of a person, the heart does a double job to drive blood through the body. Caffeine and nicotine constrict blood vessels, and you can imagine the stress on your body.
All these things affect the consciousness of a person, if you get carried away with them very much. Therefore, you need to think twice before deciding whether you need it or not. You have to pay for any actions.
Do you need to get rid of dependencies?
Given the idea that any addiction is a person's choice, we can conclude that getting rid of addiction will be the same choice. There is nothing difficult in this, if a person has a desire to stop drinking, then a two-week detoxification is enough to get rid of the body's attachment to substances. After that, he also has the right to choose whether to ruin his body or not.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I will say that everyone decides for himself how to use his body. Many people are not ready to accept the fact that addiction to alcohol, the Internet, porn, cigarettes and other things is the choice of the people themselves. Yes, it is harmful and the body wears out faster, but if a person does not interfere with anyone with his methods of dealing with misfortune, then this is not worth getting him.
The main thing is to correctly weigh everything before making a choice. If a person is satisfied with his life, then he will not have any addictions as such. The root of the problem in most cases sprouts from the head, and you need to fight not with addiction, but with the reason that prompted it.
