Seeing your mistakes is usually really hard. And the reason here is not even that people treat themselves without excessive self-criticism, it is simply difficult to sensibly assess the situation, being in its very epicenter. That is why it is so easy to criticize and see mistakes in the behavior of others, because their life, as it often seems, looks very understandable.
Instructions
Step 1
To become an expert in assessing your own life, you need to get used to looking from the outside at the main processes that are happening to you. Your behavior, actions, goals and motivation: all this needs to be reviewed from time to time, sparing no effort and time.
Step 2
Begin your attempt to look at yourself from the outside by thinking about the past day. What have you done this day? What goals did you set or what did you plan, and how did the events develop? It is important to think about whether you did at least one kind deed, as well as how useful your day was for your own future. After analyzing one day, think back to the past week and think about it in the same way. Then do this for the last month of your life. The conclusions may surprise you, but you will be even more surprised by the following experiment.
Step 3
For the next month, keep track of everything you do. Every task that takes up your time, write down in a notebook or in a file on your computer. For these purposes, the Excel program is the best suited, the values of the tables in it can be sorted and sorted, automatically calculating the time spent on business. If you have never conducted such experiments before, then real discoveries await you. After a few days, it will become clear to you that the time that you thought you were spending on useful things is wasted on something completely different. You will be surprised to know how many minutes and hours you spend on completely insignificant things. Quantitative calculation will allow you to get rid of many misconceptions about your account and prepare you for further interesting discoveries.
Step 4
After a month of counting, write down the few things that are taking the most time from you. Think about each of them, where does this lead in the long term, and what image does it create for others? It is these activities that take up most of the day, and you yourself, of course, can close your eyes to them, but looking the truth in the eye will help you evaluate yourself more honestly - just as others do.
Step 5
The next method is to ask the people around them. Close friends who will not be afraid to tell you about your shortcomings and remind you of your merits, relatives, each of whom will name something different … The main thing here is to remember that a view from the outside does not always imply complete objectivity. This very "side" - it is different for everyone, so you do not need to consider other people's statements about yourself as the ultimate truth.
Step 6
Start keeping a diary or blog. Write there regularly, at least 2-3 times a week. Re-read what you write from time to time: it can open your eyes to many things. And if you reread your notes over the past few years at once, you will be surprised how many things fall into place in your head. The advantage of a personal journal is that you can be completely sincere with yourself, as you will not be afraid of public opinion. But a blog is good because if you have readers, they can give back reaction, which can sometimes literally open your eyes to something.
