Studying your own abilities is not only interesting but also useful. Such self-improvement helps to identify strengths and growth areas. If you want to know how good your memory is, check out dedicated tests.
Instructions
Step 1
Check how well you are at memorizing a series of randomly selected words. Do not take too long a list at once. First, let it have 10 points. Try to memorize one word after another, allotting no more than 40 seconds for the entire list. Then reproduce what you remember on a piece of paper. Compare the result with the source and draw the appropriate conclusions. If you memorized 5 or more words, and also arranged them in the right order, you have an average memory. The higher the percentage of memorization, the better your ability to memorize information.
Step 2
For the next task, you will need an assistant. Ask a friend or family member to compose a few items in a random order for you. All things should be no more than 20. For a minute, look at a complex of objects and try to remember what is in what place. Then turn away and ask your assistant to change the composition. For example, let him remove something or change places. Turning around, try to quickly navigate what has changed in the picture in front of you. If you complete the task successfully the first time, you have a good memory.
Step 3
Understand yourself. Think how easy it is for you to forget memorable dates and friends' birthdays. Analyze your ability to remember phone numbers and addresses. Determine what is your ability to remember the small details of an event or how you feel about what happened a few years ago. You may find that you have a good memory for feelings and emotions. Such people can immerse themselves in memories of a certain smell or song.
Step 4
It may turn out that you cannot recall in memory where you were a week ago on a certain date and what you ate for lunch a couple of days ago. This speaks of an unimportant memory. However, it all also depends on how receptive you are to the world around you. After all, there are individuals who live in the present. They appreciate every moment, they absorb the surrounding atmosphere. And other people sometimes act automatically and do not notice what they are doing at the moment. But this is already a matter of attentiveness, not the ability to remember.
Step 5
Try to remember what you loved as a child, what your tastes, hobbies, dreams, desires were. Perhaps you will only recall general features in your memory, or perhaps you will be able to mentally draw even your favorite toy or wardrobe item. Please note that this exercise will only help you determine the quality of your memory in middle-aged people. Adolescents, boys and girls were children relatively recently, and older people have passed more than half a century after their childhood. Therefore, for people of these categories, the task is not relevant.
