Courage is one of those human qualities that inspire respect and admiration. Unfortunately, it is often confused with recklessness, bravado, recklessness, while these qualities are quite different.
Instructions
Step 1
According to the dictionary definition, courage is the ability to overcome fear of something. Therefore, a brave person is not one who is not afraid of anything, but one who finds the strength to act in the right way, despite the fear of danger. This is the main difference between courage and recklessness, since a reckless person simply does not assess risk and danger in the right way, and therefore does not feel fear.
Step 2
As a rule, heroism is inextricably linked with courage, that is, the ability to act appropriately in a dangerous situation, while others allow fear to take over. It is necessary to understand that reckless people are also capable of acting in extreme situations in a heroic way, but the motives of their actions will be completely different. If a brave person realizes the danger to his health or life, but still does not allow panic to prevail over reason or emotional attachments, then a reckless person does not perceive the situation as dangerous at all. Of course, from the outside, these manifestations of human character may look identical, but only the first case can be considered true heroism. It is no coincidence that the American philosopher and poet Ralph Emerson remarked: "The hero is not braver than an ordinary person, but he is braver by five minutes more."
Step 3
Courage as a quality can well be developed. To do this, you need to fight your fears, try to objectively assess the danger in a given situation and act despite the feeling of fear. For example, circus performers performing dangerous stunts, in case of failure, try to immediately repeat the trick again in order to immediately get rid of the fear of a mistake. Keep in mind that, as a rule, a fearful person tends to exaggerate the real danger, which is why it is so important to learn to assess the situation in cold blood.
Step 4
At the same time, do not rush headlong towards fears. Your task is not to demonstrate to yourself and others that you disregard the danger, but to learn how to quickly identify possible risks and act accordingly. Do not forget that fear is a natural feeling inherent in everyone, so there is no need to be ashamed of what you are afraid. The main thing is that you can act in spite of fear, because this is what is called courage.
