Willpower is the ability to direct efforts to achieve the desired result, contrary to personal desires. A person with willpower is not very susceptible to such common vices as smoking, alcoholism and drug addiction, he is respected by others and often reaches a high position in society. If willpower is not clearly expressed, it can be developed.
Why do you need willpower, why is there a need to force yourself in order to become a successful person? Your body signals you if you are hungry or thirsty. But he is not able to "think" long term. This means that your body does not understand why it needs to get out of a warm bed in order to exercise. Your body is fine and so, and obesity in the future does not bother it. The only way to overcome the instinct to lie in warmth and safety is through willpower. And the more you indulge the desires of your body and habits, the weaker it becomes. The development of willpower is impossible without awareness - the ability to "turn on" consciousness when looking at what is happening. That is why it is useless to develop volitional qualities in a small child - until he realizes the need to study, he will shirk from lessons until he understands the need for treatment - he will spit out the bitter medicine. Realizing a problem is the first step to developing willpower. The second step is developing self-discipline. Arrange daily workouts: get up right after the alarm rings - give yourself five points, did the exercises - add the same amount. At work, start following your daily plan right away, rather than wasting time on pleasant conversations. In the evening, count all the cases when you were able to defeat your laziness. And try to increase this result every day. After working on willpower, find a more serious use for it - try to solve a serious life problem. For example, get up the corporate ladder. To begin with, analyze the situation and find ways to achieve what you want: learn a foreign language, improve your qualifications, make some practical job offers. And then try to make maximum volitional efforts and complete all the points of your plan. It is worth noting, of course, that willpower alone is not enough to defeat all bad habits, make a career, etc. This also requires proper motivation, introspection, constant work on oneself. However, willpower is one of the necessary qualities, the absence of which can lead to complete degradation of the personality.
