Anxiety is an indistinct feeling familiar to everyone. Everything seems to be fine, but something is wrong. And what exactly is impossible to understand. Some call this state of intuition, a premonition, and sometimes it really helps us out.
Anxiety itself is a useful phenomenon, "sewn" into the human psyche from birth. It is something unformed: we do not know what we are afraid of, but we continue to worry.
For our distant ancestors, such a mechanism helped to survive in the wild and plays the same role now. For example, you intuitively understand that getting close to a cage with a lion is a very dangerous activity, preferring to admire wild animals from afar. This is an adequate alarm.
But if a person continues to worry for no reason, being at home or at work, where nothing threatens him, then such anxiety is irrational and is a sign of neurosis. And if you do not address this issue in time in the psychologist's office, then gradually this state takes on clear outlines: the neurotic finds specific things, objects and phenomena, endowing them with the meaning of anxiety.
Anxiety turns into fear. Fear is always specific (I am afraid of heights, dogs or snow), anxiety is characterized by its pointlessness (I am afraid, but I do not know what). And here we are already dealing with a phobia.
So where does this strange, unpleasant condition come from? The answer is rather prosaic: legs grow out of childhood. Here are two illustrative examples:
- the child was born into a family where mom and dad love him and each other. They were waiting for him, he feels needed, he develops in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. The feeling of complete safety and benevolence of the world will clearly be recorded in his subconscious, and he will grow up as a confident, successful person;
- in the second case, we will "place" the child in a family where aggression, humiliation and violence reign. What picture of the world will form in his head? The world is dangerous, I am not needed, I have no right to be and ask for something from others, I am not worthy of good. And there are a lot of such adult uncles and aunts among us.
High anxiety interferes with fully living and developing, since a person's consciousness is sharpened for the negative. But there is good news: everything is fixable.
