The mechanisms of psychological defense are what we face every day, sometimes not noticing how we are trying to escape from factors negative for our consciousness.
Instructions
Step 1
crowding out
Many people often use this method to protect themselves from external negative influences. This method consists in the fact that we unconsciously try to force out from our thoughts what weighs us down. Simply put, we displace any fact from our consciousness and switch to something else as quickly as possible.
Regression
The use of this mechanism makes us go down to the level of adaptation below and allows us to satisfy base desires.
Projection
This mechanism often works in immature and vulnerable people. The essence of this mechanism lies in the fact that a person notices his own, often uncritical, shortcomings in other people, paying excessive attention. In everyday life, we can very often come across this defense mechanism.
Introjection
Introjection is the opposite of projection. This psychological defense is laid at an early stage of personality development and can be activated at the time of mourning, with the loss of a loved one. It consists in the fact that when forming a personality, a person absorbs the morals and foundations of his parents and, with the help of introjection, removes the psychological differences between the objects of love and the personality.
Step 2
Rationalization
This mechanism can be summarized in one word - self-deception. The essence of rationalization is that we can justify our thoughts, actions, feelings, behavior that are contrary to acceptable norms. There is always a particle of truth in rationalization, but self-deception prevails many times.
Intellectualization
With this method of protection, people resort to excessive intellectual analysis of what happened. Often we can meet people who do not solve their problems, but only talk about them.
Compensation
Due to compensation, people tend to unconsciously overcome their experiences and complexes by acquiring status in society. There is acceptable and unacceptable compensation. Acceptable - a blind person becomes a great artist, composer or fashion designer, unacceptable - a manifestation of aggression, as compensation for an unattractive appearance or short stature.
Step 3
Negation
People immersed in such protection simply do not notice problems, experiences, feelings, thoughts. Rejection of reality takes place.
Bias
Latent fears, worries, experiences, closed in the subconscious in real life, are transferred in the form of aggression to a certain object.
