Speaking to an audience, whether it is a response at school or a presentation at work, can be very exciting. To overcome it, you need to think over for yourself a set of measures that are effective in your case.
Instructions
Step 1
Try to relax. The first thing you want to do if you are overwhelmed by the fear of performing is to shrink into a ball and become as invisible as possible. This impulse will only aggravate your excitement, and every minute before the performance will give you psychological discomfort. Therefore, relax all the muscles instead of tense them.
Step 2
Get into an open pose. Don't cross your arms and legs. Firstly, it will allow blood to circulate better, and, secondly, it will demonstrate your openness and self-confidence to the audience present.
Step 3
To make your body understand that nothing terrible is happening, try to restore your breathing. More often than not, it rises when you are worried. Inhale deeply for a count of four, then exhale sharply. Repeat this exercise 10 times.
Step 4
If you feel that your voice breaks down with excitement, do speech exercises before performing. Speak part of your speech out loud without opening your mouth. At the same time, try to make your speech expressive, i.e. there were increases and decreases in the voice. This will relax your face and throat muscles, making it much easier to deal with anxiety.
Step 5
Reduce trembling knees, if any. One way you can do this is by mentally directing your attention to them. If this method does not help, then you can try to "trick" your brain. Look at your knees and make them shake. More often than not, they stop doing it.
Step 6
Write down the main points of your speech if your anxiety is due to the fact that you are afraid to forget part of your speech. At any time, you can turn your gaze to the cheat sheet and return to the thread of the presentation. You can put this sheet in a folder so that your listeners don't suspect anything.
