Remorse, guilt, remorse for what you have done - these are all quite similar human feelings that arise after committing an act. Some people can handle them easily, while others cannot. In order to get rid of the "pangs of conscience", you need to carefully study the current situation and try to change your attitude towards it.
Instructions
Step 1
If you think you've done something bad, don't immediately label yourself as the worst person in the world. First of all, remember that all people tend to make mistakes, since there is no one in the world who could be called an absolute ideal. Therefore, try to accept what happened, and accept not a single detail of the situation, but completely the whole fact of what happened.
Step 2
Analyze what caused you to do this. It is equally important to remember exactly when the remorse arose and to think soberly whether there really is some part of your fault in what happened, or do you just think that it is there, but in fact it was not there? If after that you come to the conclusion that the basis for the experience was an illusion, then it will undoubtedly be easier to cope with remorse.
Step 3
If your fault was insignificant, try to realize that everything is already in the past, therefore, there is no reason for self-torture. In addition, remorse of conscience will not make it easier for you or for those who are victims of this situation. Better think about what conclusions you can draw from this life experience, and decide for yourself: how you will act if a similar situation arises.
Step 4
From any situation, you can find several exit options, you just have to want to. You always have a choice - will you sit and suffer from remorse or take at least some action to fix what you have done. Therefore, at least at times it is incredibly difficult to do this, but if your guilt towards someone is really significant, you need to overpower yourself and, looking into the eyes of the one towards whom you did something bad, admit that you were wrong and apologize … This may not make the other person any easier, but you will take the burden off your shoulders, and it is very likely that this is how you will get rid of remorse.
Step 5
Try to forgive yourself for what you have done. Life goes on, and it's not worth bearing the burden of previous mistakes. After all, everyone is wrong, not just you - the only one in the world who did the wrong thing. Just try to avoid such situations in the future.
