Ask for advice. The surest way to establish influence over a person is to talk to him about what he feels like a connoisseur and expert. Ask his advice and be sure to note his competence in this or that issue.

Appreciate in a person what he values in himself. If you notice and appreciate the skills and dignity of a person, then you are guaranteed influence over him. For every person to be appreciated is almost the ultimate dream. But learn one important "but": your assessments must be sincere and not contain cheap flattery.
