Finding your calling in life is an important goal for every person. When you are acting not by calling, but by compulsion, there is a danger of achieving something that is not what you dreamed of. Or, your hard-earned goals may not be as sweet as you would like.

Step 1
Make a list of your desired professions. Try to group them into categories. You will see who or what should be the main focus of your efforts. Someone likes to work with wildlife, and then the work of a biologist, veterinarian or agricultural technician may be the best for him. Others enjoy working with people, and may be a teacher or doctor. And then there are such areas of effort as working with signs, technology, etc.
Step 2
Visit a psychologist, take tests. Sometimes we are so crushed by the environment that we cannot get to the bottom of our true desires. But there are special tests and methods that allow psychologists to determine what you want and in which area you will be most successful. Use these tools to avoid wasting years of your life on unnecessary learning.
Step 3
Analyze your talents and capabilities. Many teenagers, for example, dream of being great artists, conquering millions of fans. But some of them cannot even connect two words when speaking in public. Assess your skills and talents soberly. Pay attention to which subjects are easier to learn at school. Most likely, the professions associated with them will become a real gold mine for you.
Step 4
Consider family ties and social status. Choosing a profession out of a desire to continue the dynasty is not at all a bad option for self-determination. Children in such families usually from an early age absorb the culture of their parents' professional activities. And then it is easier for them to become successful in the same field. And family ties and well-trodden paths in the industry will not hurt either.
