The word "responsibility" is very popular these days. It can even be seen on lampposts as a requirement for a network marketing candidate. This word in the meaning of personality traits is not mentioned in the largest dictionaries. Nevertheless, many people first of all understand by responsibility a certain special quality of the personality. What is responsibility?

Step 1

Responsibility is the ability and consent of a person to pay with time, money, the degree of his freedom for the result of a certain activity. And in some cases, even to be punished, although punishment itself, as a rule, does not correct the situation. In these cases, responsibility means a special justice of the individual in relation to himself: "I deserve it, so I will be responsible for my actions."

Step 2

This word is ancient, it appeared according to the same model in many languages, and in all dialects it is associated with the ability to react, respond, and also with punishment. Initially, the punishment was quite material, that is, it made a practical sense. For murder, for example, a price was set for compensation for material and moral damage, in modern terms.

Step 3

In our time, responsibility is associated with the need and ability of an individual to keep his word and make decisions, considering the situation from the position of not only his own interests. Responsibility is more than the ability of an individual to comply with agreements, that is, to be obligatory. But commitment is an integral part of responsibility.

Responsibility appears only where more than one person is involved, that is, outside of society, responsibility is not formed. Even in cases when a person responsibly does something “for himself” or “for God,” the educated quality is still implied.

Step 4

The deeper a person's connections with other people, the more likely the person will be responsible. The experience of responsible relationships is important for the formation of this quality. Only a really acting person can be called responsible. For example, if a young man does not marry, but cohabits with a lady, motivating his unwillingness by the fact that he, as a responsible person, approaches the issue of marriage very seriously, his attitude cannot be called responsible. He has not tried a real marriage, and in fact he enjoys all the benefits of marriage, but does not want to bear responsibility.

Step 5

Responsibility is an indispensable quality of a leader. However, in our time, in relation to leadership, a somewhat unhealthy attitude is formed. It is argued that everyone should want to be a leader. This is a trap for those responsible people who do not have the ability to manage people. Responsibility forces them to lose their health at work for which they are not inclined. This is especially dangerous for men who get heart attacks at a young age, mainly due to worries related to work.

So, responsibility is social and is proved by deeds, and its measure should be determined by each individual in accordance with the possibilities.
