The speech that a person perceives is interpreted by him subjectively, and not exactly as the interlocutor intends. By using the technique of perceptual positions, conflicts associated with misunderstandings can be avoided.
- this is the point of view of a person on a communicative situation. The essence of three-position perception is the need to consider the situation from a different angle, or rather from 3 different positions: “I”, “Other”, “Observer”. Awareness of these positions will help to avoid conflict situations and make communication more effective.
: "I". This is a position that is based on your own feelings and experiences. The feelings and opinions of other people are not taken into account. A person who participates in communication only from this position has such a character trait as egocentrism. However, this position is necessary in order not to forget about your own goals and outlook on life.
"Other". Communication is perceived from the point of view of the interlocutor, that is, a person puts himself in the place of another. Adopting the second position allows you to take into account the interests and feelings of others. A person who constantly thinks only on behalf of the interlocutor is subject to manipulation and may neglect his principles for the sake of others. But it is very important to adequately and moderately take into account the state of the interlocutor.
: "Observer". Complete removal from the first two positions. The dialogue is perceived from the side of a complete stranger. Feelings and emotions descend. This is the most sober and judicious position, but using only it, a person runs the risk of looking insensitive and callous.
In the theory of NLP, two additional positions are distinguished:
: look at the situation from the point of view of a group member. A group means two or more people, from a couple to a large company. Communication and looking at it take into account the interests of the group as much as possible.
: looking at the situation from the point of view of the common good. The importance of making a positive contribution to the world and the lives of others is taken into account.
Each of the positions described is very important and plays a significant role in communication. We unconsciously use them in our daily life, but it is useful to learn how to use them consciously, for example, to develop the skill of empathy and conflict resolution.
